Rumor Definitely Has It: German Shepherd Takes Home AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Best In Show

The 15th annual AKC Eukanuba National Championship Dog Show was held this past December in sunny Orlando, Florida. Over 4,000 dogs tried their paw at winning the $50,000 cash prize and title of Best in Show. The breathtaking German Shepherd named Rumor was the proud pup who got to take home the prize.

You can see the entire Best in Show competition online here thanks to Eukanuba. I definitely recommend it. It is easy to see that these dogs are truly the best of the best.

The Best in Show competition begins by introducing you, and more importantly the judge of the competition, to the 7 group winners. These dogs have shown themselves to be the best compared to their breed standard. To those of us outside of the competitive dog show world, it might seem like dogs are compared to one another and the most charismatic or most ravishing dog wins. Each dog is actually compared to their own breed standard. AKC dog show winners are the dogs that are the best example of characteristics and traits specific to their own breed.

The 2015 Group Winners (And Best In Show Contestants) Were:

  • Sporting: GCH Darnelle's Pennies From Heaven, an Irish Setter known as "Penny," owned by Melinda Higby and Susan Schafer of Jacksonville, Florida.
  • Hound: GCH Sporting Fields Shameless, a Whippet known as "Brazen," owned by Dionne Butt, Barbara Call, Jane Cooney-Waterhouse and Amanda Giles of Brooksville, Florida.
  • Working: GCH Aviators Lady's Man De Remis, a Portuguese Water Dog known as "Manly," owned by Remy Smith-Lewis and Julie Conger of Sonoma, California.
  • Terrier: GCH Round Town Queen Of Hearts Of Maryscot, a Scottish Terrier known as "Queenie," owned by Amelia Musser of Mackinac Island, Michigan.
  • Toy: HIDDEN VALLEY B R8, a Toy Poodle, owned by Gilje Seong of South Korea.
  • Non-Sporting: GCH Eastern-Magic Fly Me Safe, a Chow Chow known as "Co Pilot," owned by Matthew Fan, Kiki Pratna and Layla Loveless of Lubbock, Texas.
  • Herding: GCH Lockenhaus' Rumor Has It V Kenlyn, a German Shepherd Dog known as "Rumor," owned by Deborah Stern, Pamela Buckles, Patti Dukeman, Pam McElheney and Kent Boyles of Maumee, Ohio.

While dogs are judged based on their breed standard, Rumor was definitely a crowd favorite and an incredibly beautiful dog. Handled by Kent Boyles, Rumor took home her 100th Best in Show title.
