French Bulldogs Are America’s New Favorite Breed!

 Every year, the American Kennel Club (AKC) ranks the most popular dog breeds in America. For the past 31 years, the Labrador Retriever has reigned supreme, but, in 2022, that streak was finally broken by America’s new #1: the French Bulldog!

Why French Bulldogs?

French Bulldogs went from 14^th in 2012 to 2^nd in 2021, finally stepping onto the first-place platform in 2022. These charming dogs are full of character and personality, so it’s no surprise that they’ve wormed their way into the hearts of so many Americans over the past few years.“The French Bulldog has seen a surge in popularity over the years, and for good reason,” said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. “Frenchies are playful, adaptable, loyal and outgoing. They make wonderful companions for a variety of people, but it’s extremely important to do your research to not only find the right breed for your lifestyle, but to ensure that you’re getting a well-bred dog from a responsible breeder.”

Who Made the Top 10 in 2022?

Don’t worry, Lab lovers, while they were dethroned, they are still the number 2 most popular breed in the U.S. Here are the top 10 breeds according to the AKC, but you can get the full list on their website.

• French Bulldog

• Labrador Retriever

• Golden Retriever

• German Shepherd

• Poodle

• Bulldog

• Rottweiler

• Beagle

• Dachshund

• German Shorthaired Pointer

There were two other shakeups in the list from 2021: the Beagle swapped spots with the Rottweiler, and the Dachshund moved up to #9.
