The 15th Annual Flagship AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day is only two days away! AKC Pet Insurance is proud to again be the presenting sponsor of this fun, family-friendly (and furry-friendly) event that highlights the importance taking good care of our canine companions. The North Carolina State Fairgrounds will “go to the dogs” this Saturday, September 9th from 10am to 3pm when dog lovers from all over the state enjoy numerous demonstrations, games, vendors and giveaways. Both two and four-legged family members are welcome to this free event!
For the second consecutive year, the AKC Pet Insurance booth will be hosting a Doggie Photo Booth where attendees can get a free portrait of their dog taken by professional pet photographer, Diane Lewis of Diane Lewis Photography. Diane is not only a nationally-renowned pet photographer but also an active participant in dog agility and a huge animal advocate—volunteering her time and talents at local rescues and shelters. Photo sessions are on a first come, first serve basis. Stop by early to secure your spot!
A new addition to RDO Day this year is an on-site grooming demonstration by professional groomer, Daren James of Aussie Pet Mobile Triangle grooming. Daren is donating his time and talents to educate dog owners on proper grooming technique and pet care. In addition, thanks to Daren and Aussie Pet Mobile, one lucky rescue dog will be getting an Extreme Doggie Makeover! You won’t want to miss the before and after!
Another new addition to RDO Day this year, are Dog Games! You and your pup can get involved and compete for prizes in Doggy Limbo, High Jump, Veggie Eating Contest, Bob for Tennis Balls and a Treat (Cake) Walk. AKC Pet Insurance is providing prizes and ribbons for the lucky winners.
Other activities taking place throughout the day are numerous demonstrations. If you’ve been thinking about getting involved in a canine sport, check out these demonstrations in agility, flyball, treibball, herding, scent work and rally will all be represented.
You also won’t want to miss the Raleigh Police K9 Unit demonstration. Be impressed and watch these amazing dogs in action as they show off their remarkable skills and training.
You also have the opportunity to get your dog Canine Good Citizen Certificated at RDO Day. Stop by the CGC area to learn how your dog can get a certification that gives him or her extra canine privileges. While you’re there, also check out the Trick Dog ring. If your dog is a trickster, you can earn your first Trick Dog title on-site!
Also, outside, is the AKC Reunite booth. If your dog isn’t already microchipped, RDO Day is a good time to do it. Take advantage that Reunite will be offering discounted microchipping on-site.
Learn about different breeds at the Meet the Breeds area. Regional breed clubs attend the event so prospective dog owners can meet and learn about their breed. You can also catch your favorite breed at the Breed Parades that will be taking place throughout the day.
Lastly, leave with some goodies and participate in the raffle drawing. AKC, AKC affiliates, local organizations, rescues, vendors and other industry professionals donate creative, dog-themed raffle baskets full of goodies for you and your pup!
All in all, RDO Day is a day full of fun, learning, fur and maybe some slobber. Come visit us this Saturday!
